We Went to Newport, Rhode Island
Scott and I just returned from a great trip to Newport, RI. We were there for about four days and had a really fun time. Before we left, I spent weeks planning this trip. Researching the best things to do, the best restaurants to go to. I asked my friend Megan who lives there what to do and Scott used "his sources" to find out some things as well. As I was slowly sliding in things to do in the slots of the days we were going to be there, I kept telling myself that there might be a few things off, but we will work around it.
One of things I always say is "When I make plans, God laughs at me." Well, he was feeling pretty funny this past weekend. If you know Scott or I, we can be the most flexible people in the world IF we need to be, but we like schedules. We like plans. But, God said "Muahahaha!" In a non-evil sort of way, of course. It was a swift reminder that we are not in control of anything. After getting up on Friday at 3:45 AM for our flight, we get an email that said our flights had changed. Awesome. We thankfully got this before we headed to the airport so we weren't sitting there for hours and we could see Nolan when he woke up. Instead of getting to Rhode Island at noon, we got there at 8 PM. Multiple flights cancelled and delayed, we lost about 8 hours of our trip and 8 hours of things we were going to do. So, we basically lost a whole day. We were not happy flyers and were very stressed out the entire day trying to figure out when we would actually arrive and what we could actually fit into what was left of the day.
Thankfully, my friend Megan told us we shan't worry, everything will be fine and life was good again. Instead of doing a driving tour, having a nice sushi dinner, and then going to her place to hang out for the night with her family, we would be just doing the last thing and work everything else out.
Let's take a look at what our trip was supposed to look like, shall we?

We had an amazing time on the trip and I am going to break out day by day for you in separate posts because there is just too much to discuss in one measly post. It was definitely a trip to remember and we will definitely be going back. A lot of places we go we are like, yeah that was fun to go to once in our lives to experience but it's not necessary to go back, well this was not the case. Newport is an amazing and very unique city where the city itself is a way of life. People don't stay indoors and there are no air conditioners. People wake up and they go outside and they stay outside until it is time to sleep. They run, walk, boat, sail, bike, drive along the beach, go site seeing, etc. It is an incredibly active way of life that we aren't used to but it is just how it is. It is also a summer town where some people come for the summer only and go somewhere else for the winter. Let's just say it's not a poor man's town. It also has an immense amount of history that just melted every part of me. I love history and am always wanting to learn more, to know more, and to be a part of more. This was a perfect city to do that in for me. We not only learned so much about this small little town, but our great country as well. I could go on and on but I will spare you. For the next post. :)
